ASDAN is an excellent programme that engages and empowers our pupils through a wide variety of activities; it is an accredited programme where the pupils receive a certificate upon the successful completion of each module. Pupils can take part in 3 ASDAN programmes, Transition Challenge, Towards Independence and Workright which are all designed to promote independent living and social skills.
ASDAN compliments the school curriculum and Cornerstones themes. Pupils have been able to access many Eco school activities through completing community based modules such as Citizenship, The Environment and Horticulture.
Classes 8 and 9 are currently getting creative studying an Art module and Class 7 are looking at Performing Arts while Class 6 have been busy planning ‘Super Hero’ activities to raise money for ‘Children In Need’. They created invitations, designed posters advertising the day, sold cakes, organised a disco and raised £193.
Transition Challenge has also been successfully introduced to pupils in our Multi-sensory unit and adapted to meet the needs of these pupils who have a sensory approach to their learning.
Learning about the Spanish ‘Tomatina’ festival.
The pupils enjoyed a sensory experience, feeling, smelling and tasting the tomatoes! It is important that pupils can achieve accreditation for all levels of ability and understanding.
Senior pupils are also taking part in various work placements at Dinefwr Park and Llanelli House to gain experience in the world of work.
