The Bluestone residential visit is designed to support the life skills curriculum and develop independent living skills. Whilst in Bluestone the areas we focus upon include:
planning and preparing a meal,
budgeting and money skills,
home care (such as cleaning and clearing up after themselves),
personal care and personal appearance.
The stay also gives pupils an opportunity to work on their social skills and to put into practice what they have learnt in their Talkabout lessons.
Four senior school pupils spent 5 days at Bluestone, where they had the opportunity to put all their Life skills theory into practice. This scheme has been running for over 6 years now and provides pupils in the senior school with an environment in which to fully use the skills they have acquiring through the life skills programme in school. They have to plan and budget for the week and they are in charge of all the shopping, cooking and cleaning.
This year they chose visits to a chocolate experience, St. David’s Cathedral and a boat trip around Ramsey Island. The jet boat trip with Venture Jet, to observe nature around Ramsey Island was made possible by the support of JJ Motors. Staff and pupils would like to thank the company for this fantastic opportunity.
